Lassa Fever - One Killed In Edo

In Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State, Lassa fever is said to have killed a nurse in Okomu community.

The deceased, identified as Henry Ehimati, was said to be a nurse in the Okomu Oil Palm Company staff clinic.

It was gathered that Ehimati was admitted to the clinic after the head of the facility noticed that he looked unusually weak with high fever.

But the state Commissioner for Health, Dr David Osifo, dismissed the report on Wednesday, saying, “It is a lie. If somebody had malaria and died, is that confirmed to be Lassa fever? There is no truth in it. He was not diagnosed in a hospital.”

A correspondent, however, gathered that the clinics where the deceased was admitted to had been placed under surveillance by health officials from the Ovia South-West Local Government Council.

It was also learnt that health workers were monitoring his family in the Ikpoba-Okha local government area of the state.
