It's the storyline that's kept Coronation Street viewers hooked for weeks.
But
on Friday, the mystery of Ken Barlow's attempted murder was finally
solved as it was revealed
his son, Daniel Osbourne, had pushed him down
the stairs.
Daniel -
played by Rob Mallard - was one of six suspected suspects in the
shocking whodunnit storyline that has been playing out for two months,
but viewers were still in a state of shock.
Others added: 'DANIEL HIT KEN AND KILLED
HIS MUM OMG THIS IS CRAZY!!!! Always thought he was too innocent
#coronationstreet', 'Oh Daniel you naughty boy/psychopath.'
'Daniel did it wow i did not see that coming #coronationstreet', 'DANIEL NO WHY I LOVED YOU #coronationstreet.'
Coronation Street viewers were shocked on
Friday's episode as it emerged that Ken’s grandson Adam has been
arrested for attempted murder, despite the fact Ken’s son had been
responsible.
Next week's scenes will see the unfurling of the mystery, with a tense showdown between father and son.
After Ken accuses him, Daniel tells his dad: 'Yeah it was me and can you blame me? You took away everything I’ve ever loved.'
He also dubs Ken a 'parasite' and 'failure' who is living vicariously through his own academic successes.
Rob,
25, revealed he knew for months that he was the culprit, but had kept
it secret from everyone he knew - including his own family.
He told
The Mirror:
'I haven’t told anyone, even my nan, she found out when she watched it.
I think she will take it easy around me at the top of the stairs!
'Seriously, I think she will just be really pleased I have come in with such a good storyline.'
He added: 'It is an end of boyhood thing. Daniel is petulant and moody.'
Daniel was initially seen as a suspect as
viewers witnessed him buckle under the pressure Ken was putting on him
over his future and meddling in his affairs of the heart.
Whilst
Ken had hoped to see his son go to university, Daniel rejected his
Oxford place to be there for girlfriend Sinead when she has their baby,
only to discover she has had an abortion.
Putting
him firmly in the frame of suspicion, Daniel was seen reacting in fury
after reading the inscription of a book given to him by his father.
