Nick Kyrgios Withdrew From Australia Open Due To Injury

On the first day of the Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios withdrew due to a knee injury.

After making it to the Wimbledon final and the U.S. Open quarterfinals last year, the 27-year-old Australian had hoped to break his nation's 47-year drought.

At Melbourne Park, he told reporters, "I'm certainly upset. Similar to my home tournament,

"To be honest, I'm simply worn out from it all and obviously really cruel. One of the most significant competitions in my career. It has not at all been simple.

Will Maher, his physiotherapist, stated that Kyrgios should withdraw from the competition because he had been bothered for a few weeks by a cyst on a tiny tear in the meniscus of his left knee.

Maher said, "It's not a serious injury in the sense that it would endanger my career or anything like that.

"Right now, we were trying to keep him from getting hurt or from getting hurt worse. He has a favorable prognosis and will recover fully. We simply return to work, check to see whether everything is well with him, and then we leave once more. Maher stated.

In order to be fit for the Masters event in Indian Wells, California, in early March, Kyrgios would have joint surgery.

Kyrgios said that his knee was "constantly hurting" and that he decided to retire after a Monday morning collision with doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis.

The "Special Ks" Kyrgios and Kokkinakis, who won the men's doubles championship at Melbourne Park last year, will not be able to defend it due to the withdrawal.

Naturally, this timing is just unfortunate, but that's life, Kyrgios continued. "Injuries happen in sports. I suppose I may take some motivation from someone like Thanasi who has recovered from several injuries.

Look, I have no doubts that I will regain all of my strength and resume playing tennis like I did before this incident.

Kyrgios stated that he believed he had a good chance of being the first Australian to win the men's singles championship since Mark Edmondson in 1976.

We believed we had a real chance to win a tournament, a Grand Slam, and provide the answers, he added.
