Policeman Fined N2m For Detaining A Pastor And His Wife For Over 24 Hours

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Ikoyi, Lagos which was seen as blameworthy of rupturing the major human privileges of one Reverend Godwin Izuchukwu and his better half Reverend Prayer Godwin by confining them for 8 days, have been given a N2m fine by a Federal High Court in Lagos. 


Describing their trial before Justice Sule Hassan's judgment, the ministers unveiled that they were unlawfully kept from April 24 till May 1, 2019 by the SFU, at the occasion of one Jane Nzekwe and Kate Nwuba. 

Reverend Godwin Izuchukwu and Reverend Prayer Godwin who looked for N100million as harms, affirmed that they were beaten and tormented by the SFU agents. 

Equity Sule Hassan who managed looking into the issue which has the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Police Commissioner accountable for PSFU, Jane Nzekwe and Kate Nwuba as respondents on Wednesday March 11, expressed that security agents encroached the arrangement of the constitution. 

He said; 

"The first and second Respondents didn't document a counter sworn statement. 

"This averment was not denied by the first and second respondents. 

"By keeping the Applicant for more than 24 hours without charging him to court, the first and second Respondents, I hold, encroached the arrangement of the constitution. 

"The entirety of N2 million is granted as harms against the first and second Respondents (Police). 

"The Applicants must submit themselves to the first and second respondents for finish of examination. I thusly request candidates to answer to first and second Respondents for finish of examination."
