Man Jailed For Insulting DPO In Abuja

A Wuse Zone 6 Magistrates' Court sitting in Abuja yesterday condemned a 39-year-elderly person, Abba Tukur, to 14 days detainment for offending the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Wuse Police Station. Tukur of IBA Haruna Street, Wuse, was accused of a one-tally charge of deliberate affront.

Tukur conceded to the charge and asked the court for absolution. In his decision, Magistrate Ahmed Ndajiwo condemned Tukur to 14 days detainment, after he confessed and asked the court for tolerance. The appointed authority, be that as it may, gave the convict a choice to pay N5, 000 as fine and advised him to be a mindful resident and cease from overstepping the law.

Prior, the examiner, ASP Peter Ejike, FCT Command, told the court that on March 18, at about 9:30p.m. Whisky 6 Patrol group joined to Wuse Zone 3 Police Station, were out on watch. The investigator clarified that the watch group, which was going by Insp. Ozioma Edank, while on watch captured Tukur with a cruiser around Wuse Zone 3, Abuja.

Ejike said the convict, who was captured and taken to the police headquarters for his noncompliance, strolled into the DPO's office and started to affront him deliberately. He focused on that during police examination, Tukur confessed to have perpetrated the wrongdoing, an offense that repudiated the arrangements of Section 399 of the Penal Code Law.

In the interim, the Uyo zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday summoned one David Sambo Idio and Israel Sampson before Justice Agatha Okeke of the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on a one-tally charge verging on obstacle of equity.

The agents of the zone, in December 2019, visited Sunhill Farms in Ibiono Ibom Local Council of the state to capture one Ubon Emmanuel Essien, who is supposedly engaged with an illegal tax avoidance case. Upon appearance, the respondents nearby other people who are as of now everywhere, mobbed and assaulted the agents and harmed their Toyota Hiace transport. The impediment made it feasible for Essien to get away from capture.

The charge peruses: "That you, David Sambo Idio and Israel Ime Sampson approximately December 2019 in Uyo inside the purview of this court, did determinedly discourage approved officials of the EFCC from directing the passage, examination and capture of one Ubon Emmanuel Essien at Sunhill Farms in Ibiono Ibom LGA so as to help and encourage Essien's getaway from the approved officials of the EFCC and along these lines submitted an offense in opposition to arrangements of Section 38 (2) (an) of the EFCC Establishment Act 2004 and culpable under Section 38 (2) (b) of same Act."

They argued "not blameworthy" to the charge favored against them. Guidance for the EFCC, Nwandu Ukoha, from that point approached the court for a preliminary date and for the respondents to be remanded in the care of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The issue has been suspended to April 26 for becoming aware of bail application and April 29, for beginning of preliminary. The respondents were remanded in the authority of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
