Buhari Approves Appointment Of New Acting Appeal Court President

President Muhammadu Buhari has affirmed the arrangement of Justice Dongban Mensem as Acting President of the Court of Appeal. 


The choice was taken after the retirement of the active President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa (CFR), on March 6, 2020 (Friday). 

Equity Mensem would step in to act in the limit with respect to a quarter of a year. 

An announcement gave by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said the endorsement of the brief arrangement followed the suggestion of the Chief Justice of Nigeria. 

"President Muhammadu Buhari has affirmed the arrangement of Hon. Equity M.B. Dongban Mensem as the Acting President of the Court of Appeal for an underlying time of three (3) months, with impact from March 6, 2020, when the occupant President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Equity Zainab Bulkachuwa, CFR, would statutorily resign from administration. 

"Equity Mensem, who is the following most senior Judge of the Court of Appeal, will be acting pending when a substantive arrangement to the situation of the President of the Court of Appeal might be made by President Buhari subject to the affirmation of the Senate. 

"The President's endorsement of the arrangement of Justice Mensem, followed the proposal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria in accordance with the arrangements of Section 238(4) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution as corrected", the announcement said.
