The Federal Government has cut its visa application charges for residents of the United States from $180 to $160.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the old sum contained $160 as visa expense and $20 as "handling and convenient charges".

As indicated by the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Muhammad Babandede, the decrease followed a survey of the U.S.' visa correspondence arrangement for Nigeria.

Babandede expressed this in a Feb. 5 update stamped NIS/HQ/CGI/806/7 and routed to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In August, 2019, the U.S. government forced extra visa charges on Nigerians in counter for the "treatment stood to U.S. residents" by the Nigerian government.

The arrangement required fruitful candidates for nonimmigrant U.S. visas in the B, F, H1B, I, L, and R classes to pay somewhere in the range of $80 and $303 as correspondence expenses.

This is notwithstanding the typical visa application charges of somewhere in the range of $160 and $190.

"The absolute expense for a U.S. resident to get a visa to Nigeria is as of now higher than the all out expense for a Nigerian to acquire a tantamount visa to the United States.

"The new correspondence expense for Nigerian residents is intended to wipe out that cost contrast," the U.S. Consulate said in an announcement on its site at that point.

In his letter, the NIS encouraged every single Nigerian strategic the U.S. to quickly execute the new visa charges payable by US residents, and "stop charging preparing or convenient expenses".

"Our Missions are to issue as long as two years various section visa to visit short visit voyagers on demand in accordance with correspondence," he said.

A senior authority of the Nigerian Consulate in New York, revealed to NAN that the "preparing and practical expenses" of $20 was for online application and installment administrations rendered by a private firm.

NAN reports that Babandede's letter came a day after President Muhammadu Buhari propelled the Nigeria Visa Policy 2020 which, among others, expanded the nation's visa classes from six to 79.
