Junichi Fukuda resigned on Wednesday but denies the allegations.

Japan's socially conservative society has so far been slow to join the worldwide #MeToo movement.

Sparked by the Harvey Weinstein scandal in Hollywood, the movement started a broad push against sexual harassment in many countries around the world.

The allegations that Mr Fukuda, the finance ministry's top bureaucrat, had made sexually suggestive comments to female journalists were first reported by magazine Shukan Shincho earlier this week.

The publication also released an audio clip earlier this week which it says is the voice of the bureaucrat saying: "Can I give you a hug?" and "Can I touch your breasts?"

Following his resignation, TV Asahi said one of its reporters was a victim of harassment by Mr Fukuda.



"We want to formally hold up a challenge with the back service over various acts conferred by Mr Fukuda that caused hurt on our representative, and his resulting reaction," representative Hiroshi Shinozuka told journalists.

'Securing the service'

Mr Fukuda said he would prosecute the claims against him and was leaving simply because he would not like to disturb work at the service which as of now "faces a serious circumstance".

Japan's back service is under flame for professedly having adjusted archives to shield Executive Shinzo Abe from allegations of cronyism.

The service has said it intends to name a law office to research the allegations.

'Noiseless enduring'

Regardless of endeavors to help ladies in the workforce, Japan still has a major sex hole in its legislative issues and organizations.

Preceding Mr Fukuda's abdication, Japan's daily paper representatives association had issued an announcement calling for better security of ladies in the work environment.

"Female correspondents have needed to endure quietly, in spite of being subjected to embarrassing and humiliating treatment," the association said.

"Numerous female columnists have needed to put with sexually oppressive dialect, having hands wrapped around their hips and shoulders, however being capable just to grasp those hands and quietly put them on their proprietor's knees, because of a paranoid fear of undermining the connection between those that they give an account of and their associations."

Political disturbance

In a different case, Ryuichi Yoneyama, legislative head of the Niigata prefecture, surrendered over media reports about his relations with numerous ladies, some of which included cash and displays.
