1 – ACS, Actividades de Construccion y Servicios SA, Madrid, Spain
ACS is a construction company focused on Civil and Engineering construction. It has reported €725 Million Net profit for the 2015 financial year. One of ACS’ most notable projects is the Alqueva Dam, in Portugal. The Dam itself was completed in 2002 and cost US$1.7 Billion to construct. It captures 250 sq.km (or 97 sq.miles) and took 7 years to build (started in 1995).
2 – HOCHTIEF Aktiengesellschaft, Essen, Germany
Hochtief is a German construction company which operates globally, notably through it’s USA Subsidiary of Turner and it’s Australian Subsidiary CIMIC  Group. The company reported a €575 Million Net Profit in the 2015 financial year, not bad! Hechtief have undertaken a lot of work in the many years they have been in operation. One notable project constructed was Germany’s first ever Nuclear Power Plant.



3 – Bechtel, San Francisco, Calif., U.S.A.
Bechtel is the United State of America’s largest construction and engineering company. It reported US$37.2 Billion as revenue in 2014 which was significantly below it’s previous year. Bechtel have undertaken some massive projects and non more notable than the Project Management of the Los Angeles Summer Olympics that were held in 1984 – not bad to have on the resume!
4 – VINCI, Rueil-Malmaison Cedex, France
VINCI is a French Construction company founded in 1899, it reported a €2.1 Billion Net Profit in their 2015 financial reports. Being one of the oldest companies in France within the construction industry, they have been involved in some major projects in their time, specifically, Tour Maine-Montparnasse. A skyscraper in the Paris area, it took four years to construct, from 1969 to 1973 and stood as the tallest building in France until 2011.
5 – China Communications Construction Grp. Ltd., Beijing, China
China Communications Construction Group is, as stated in it’s name, a construction company based out of China (Beijing). They reported a profit of RMB 15,913 Million (approx US$ 2.4 Billion). One of it’s Subsidiary’s in Australia, John Holland, has constructed much of the infrastructure in Australia and was recently sold to the company to further cement it’s position as one of the top construction firms globally.

TECHNIP Financial Results for the 2015 full year were reported as €45.1 Million Net Income with Revenue at €12.2 Billion. It has approximately 38,000 employees and operates in 48 countries across the Globe. It is also listed on the French Stock Exchange
7 – BOUYGUES S.A., Paris Cedex 08, France
Bouygues’ business is in construction, communications and real eastet. Their reported Net profit for 2015 financial year was €45.1 Million.
This French company has constructed some iconic projects around the world, this includes:
  • The new french Ministry of Defence
  • Stade Vélodrome football stadium, Marseille
  • Port of Miami Tunnel

8 – Skanska AB, Stockholm, Sweden
A Swedish construction company founded in 1887 focused on construction and developments. It’s financial report notes that it’s revenue was SEK 155 Billion (US $17.9 Billion). Some notable project undertaken by Skanska are:
  • World Trade Centre Transporation hub
  • MetLife Stadium
  • 30 St Mary Axe in London
9 – STRABAG SE, Vienna, Austria
STRABAG is an Austrian firm that focuses on construction in Europe with it’s main work undertaken in Austria and Germany however, it is not restricted to these locations with projects in North America and Asia with it’s subsidiaries. In the 2015 financial year STRABAG it reported a €182 Million Net Income on €13 Billion of Revenue. Some notable projects that STRABAG SE has undertaken include:
  • Alte Weser Lighthouse
  • Basra International Airport in Iraq
  • Copenhagen Metro in Denmark
  • The Limerick Tunnel in Ireland
10 – Saipem, San Donato Milanese, Italy
An Oil and Gas company which made just over €800 Million in the 2015 financial year. They are best known for it’s pipeline work notably, the Blue Stream which connects natural gas from Russia to Turkey. It is over 700km in length and cost US$3.2Billion.

The British-based company is young compared to some of its fellow top-tenners, but has quickly expanded, working on several high-profile projects in the last decade, including Ascot Racecourse and Heathrow Airport Terminal 5. Oversees it is currently involved in the huge Al Raha beach development in Abu Dhabi.
9. Royal BAM Group
Founded in 1886 in Holland, the company built Ajax football club’s Amsterdam Arena in its native Netherlands in 1996. Bataafsche Aanneming Maatschappij, from which the company abbreviates its name, translates as Batavian Construction Company for Construction and Concrete Projects. Around 27,000 people work for the group.
8. Kiewit
Nebraska-based Kiewit is unique within this list in that it is owned by its employees, meaning almost all its projects are staffed by shareholders. The company was named number three in Engineering News-Record’s Top 400 Contractors of 2013.
7. Bouygues Construction
The French company employs more than 130,000 people in 80 different countries. In the mid 1990s it expanded into telecoms, which became another major revenue stream. Its subsidiary, Colas Group, specialises in road construction and rail track construction.
6. Balfour Beatty
The multinational was founded in 1909 by George Balfour and Andrew Beatty. Headquartered in London, the company is currently an integral part of the Crossrail project in the UK capital. It operates in more than 80 countries around the world and employs some 40,000 people.
5. Skanska
Based in Sweden, the multinational operates in the residential, commercial, residential and infrastructure sectors. In the US, the company is known for constructing the Meadowland Sports Complex, home to the NFL’s New York Jets and Giants. Skanska employs more than 50,000 people.
4. Hochtief
Focusing on infrastructure projects, the German company operates in the US through its Turner subsidiary. Hochtief employs around 80,000 people and celebrates its 140th anniversary this year. Spanish contractor Grupo ACS has owned a majority stake in the company of 50.16 percent since 2011.
3. Bechtel
The largest US contractor has worked on such high-profile projects as the Hoover Dam completed back in 1936, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline system in the ‘70s and more recently the ‘Big Dig’ Central Artery project finished in 2007. The company employs more than 53,000 people around the world.

The Spanish contractor was formed in 1997 through the merger of two other construction companies. It has grown through several high-profile acquisitions including that of Hochtief. The company has worked on the Alqueva Dam in Portugal and Torre de Cristal and Torre Espacio skyscrapers in its home country.

The 115 year-old French giant reports the largest revenues of any privately-owned construction company in the world, a position it has achieved through shrewd acquisitions and effective delivery of high-profile, large-scale infrastructure projects such as the Gariep Dam in South Africa, completed in 1971 and the Stade de France. The arena was built for the 1998 football World Cup, and now serves as France’s national Stadium.
Operating worldwide, the Group employs more than 183,000 people according to the last available figures (from 2011).
The Group is currently working on the €440 million express-lane highway system in Atlanta, Georgia and the Wheatstone Liquefied Natural Gas Project in Australia.
