Charlie Gard's Great Ormond Street nurses
have vowed to
care for him on their days off to help him die peacefully
in a hospice, the High Court heard today.
The
11-month-old's parents Connie Yates and Chris Gard have accepted they
cannot keep their promise and take him home to 'slip away' in his cot
before his first birthday.
Miss Yates
was in court today wearing a heart-shaped pendant engraved with
'Charlie' while Mr Gard continued the vigil at their son's bedside.
They
had said their 'last wish' was to bathe him and put him to bed before
he died but have now found a doctor to help him to a hospice and
Charlie's nurses have volunteered to work 12 hour shifts to care for the
little boy to the end.
A family
source told MailOnline it was 'a fluid situation' but confirmed the
current proposal was for him to leave hospital and die in a hospice
after a few days.
Barrister Grant
Armstrong, who leads Charlie's parents' legal team, said a doctor with
intensive care experience had been found to help the family.
He
said: 'There is a doctor currently travelling to be here at court.
Several of the nurses at Great Ormond Street have volunteered to assist
in the care of Charlie'.
