President Buhari Asks Senate To Approve N10bn For Kogi

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday sent a letter to the Senate, looking for its endorsement for the installment of N10 billion to Kogi State. 


Buhari, in the letter, routed to Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, said the cash would be utilized by the state government to settle nearby obligations it caused because of the ventures executed in the interest of the Federal Government. 

Buhari said his solicitation depended on the goals passed by the eighth Senate 

The President's solicitation which was contained in a letter dated tenth October 2019, was for the repayment of acquired neighborhood obligations and authoritative commitments of the Federal Government to the State for ventures executed for the Federal Government. 

He noticed that 24 out of 25 state governments had gotten the endorsement of the National Assembly for the settlement of cases on ventures executed in the interest of the Federal Government since the eighth Senate passed the goals. 

He included that N10.069 bn was the remarkable sum due to Kogi State Government which is the main state yet to get a discount. 

The letter read, "In light of my solicitation for the Resolution of the National Assembly endorsing the foundation of a promissory note program and a Bond Issuance to settle acquired Local Debts and Contractual Obligations of the Federal Government, the eighth National Assembly passed Resolutions supporting the Issuance of Promissory Notes to discount State Governments for tasks executed in the interest of the Federal Government. 

"The Resolutions of the eighth Assembly were passed on through three unique letters from the Clerk of the National Assembly as pursues: Letter dated July 27, 2018, and referenced NASS/CAN/106/Vol.10/277 which endorsed the Issuance of Promissory notes to 21 states. 

"Letter dated January 29, 2019, and referenced NASS/CAN/106/Vol.11/004 which endorsed the Issuance of Promissory Notes to Delta and Taraba States; and letter dated May 23, 2019, and referenced NASS/CAN/106/Vol.11/164 which affirmed the Issuance of Promissory Notes to Bauchi State. 

"The three Resolutions endorsed the Issuance of Promissory Notes to 24 out of the 25 State Governments mentioned, and the main State for which endorsement has not been given is Kogi State, with an exceptional case of N10,069,692,410.15 (Ten billion, Sixty-Nine million, Six Hundred and Ninety-Two thousand, Four Hundred and Ten Naira, Fifteen Kobo). 

"The Senate may wish to take note of that, consequent to Resolutions of the National Assembly endorsing the discounts to the 24 State Governments, the Federal Government has given Promissory Notes to all the affirmed States for the settlement of their cases. 

"As needs are, the Senate is thus mentioned to benevolently affirm, the Issuance of a Promissory Note in the total of N10, 069,692,410.15 as a discount to Kogi State Government for Projects executed in the interest of the Federal Government." 

The Senate President alluded Buhari's solicitation to the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts for further administrative work.
