The Belgian competitor, who won decorations at the Paralympics in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016, had a serious degenerative muscle ailment which caused steady torment, seizures and loss of motion in her legs and seriously restricted her capacity to rest.
Her passing was affirmed in an announcement from her home city of Diest.
The announcement stated: "On Tuesday 22 October 2019, Marieke Vervoort, 'our Wielemie', passed away. Marieke, conceived on 10 May 1979, experienced dynamic muscle ailment.
"In spite of her physical restrictions, she worked out an amazing games profession. Marieke was 40 years of age.
"Marieke is Paralympic champion, Grand Officer in the Crown Order and holder of various national and worldwide honors and improvements.
"Marieke settled on willful extermination a couple of years prior and reacted to her decision on Tuesday evening."
Vervoort marked papers in Belgium, where killing is legitimate, in 2008 to enable specialists to take her life at her solicitation one day.
Addressing the BBC about her choice after the Rio Paralympics, she stated: "It gives a sentiment of rest to individuals. I realize when it's sufficient for me, I have those papers."
