The Senegal star got Messi's top decision in favor of the honor a month ago, with the Barcelona winger, in the long run, getting the prize himself, while Mane completed fifth.
Mane's partner Virgil van Dijk completed in second, in front of Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and individual Reds winger Mohamed Salah in third and forth separately.
"It's an extraordinary compliment when Messi votes in favor of you," Mane said in a meeting with The Sunday Times.
"In the event that you see where I've originated from, it shows I've overcome much. Without being for quite a while at a foundation, I arrived.
"Everything I can say [to kids] is to continue trying sincerely and go for your fantasy."
Furthermore, on whether he would give back in kind for Messi whenever given the opportunity, the Liverpool winger kidded: "Truly, without a doubt… after Virgil [Van Dijk]. No, Virgil is an extraordinary, incredible player yet sorry Virgil, it must be Messi before you."
