Following the latest development rocking football in Africa, the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has announced that the body will conduct an emergency Executive Committee meeting which comes up on Friday, December 11, 2020.....
On Monday, the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) suspended the incumbent president of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad, and first Vice President, Constant Omari of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was placed in charge of affairs in interim basis.
But more troubles seem to be in the offing as Omari is also under FIFA investigation and had been asked along with the banned Ahmad to stand-aside over the way both handled a television contract for CAF in a way that that appeared to benefit a commercial partner over CAF.
This is the latest ethical concern for a governing body that was subject to direct FIFA oversight as recently as February.
DAILY INDEPENDENT gathered that the emergency meeting which was initially slated to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia will now come up via video conferencing and it will be directed from CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
Matters concerning the latest development rocking the confederation will be discussed and next election will also be top of the agenda.
However, four candidates have signified interest in contesting in the election for the position of CAF president scheduled to take place on March 12, 2021, in Rabat, Morocco.
Recalled that Ahmad of Malagasy who dethroned Issa Hayatou of Cameroon to emerge the president of CAF in 2017 has declared his interest to seek a new tenure, but this does not seem to be visible again.
