The Queen of Prints Mary Katrantzou once again confirmed her status: this time the designer suggested awakening imagination and going on a surreal journey. Recalling childhood dreams and favorite animated cartoons, and taking advantage of her tailor’s talent, Mary transmitted the stories from imagination onto clothes from her fall-winter collection.
Velvet and wool houndstooth suits,
jacquard coats, skirts and bombers are adorned with gracious swans,
flowers – from tiny field ones to some luxury buds, voluminous
applications, forest fairies as if descended from the Peter Pan’s pages,
fauns and centaurs from the famous Disney’s cartoon of the 40s –
‘Fantasia’. By the way, the 40s became the leitmotif of the collection.
The noir aesthetics can be read in the
silhouettes and details: voluminous forms, rolled balloon-sleeves, clear
waist, pleating, luxurious fur collars, and a neckline accented with
lovely velvet neckwarmers.
