Osun Govt Lauds NMA For Suspending 7-day Warning Strike

Osun State government, on Friday, commended members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and other unions working in government hospitals for suspending their 7-day warning strike...

The NMA, comprising of medical doctors in the employ of the state government had embarked on the strike to protest the poor health facilities in public hospitals and also to demand payment of their salary arrears.
But, the state government in a press statement issued yesterday by the special adviser on media to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr Sola Fasure said “the State Executive Council after its weekly meeting on Wednesday saluted the NMA for what it described as the association’s “Sense of sacrifice” and urges them to rededicate themselves to public service and the promotion of the health of all the people.”
In another development, the statement added that the “Council ratified the selection of Prince Femi Agunsoye from Agunsoye Ruling House as the Elegboro of Ijebu Jesa, in Oriade Local Government Area.
Prince Agunsoye’s ratification was said to have followed the laid down age-long norms of the selection process, adding that he was selected among the five princes that contested to be Elegboro and received the unanimous votes of the kingmakers.
It will be recalled that the Elegboro stool became vacant on March 9, 2017, following the departure of the last Elegboro, Oba Felix Taiwo Aribisala Ajigiteri II.
The statement also disclosed that the council received report that some criminal-minded individuals have embarked on the destruction of public utilities in the state, stressing that the government was in possession of report that some people were vandalising street light cables thereby damaging street lights and other public utilities. The statement noted: “Council received report that street light cables are being vandalised, plunging roads in parts of the state into darkness at night and undermining the constant efforts of the government at illuminating the streets.
“Council strongly condemns this act of sabotage. Council, therefore, urges law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch associations, traditional rulers and residents to be vigilant and watch out for the activities of vandals, protect public infrastructure and prevent further acts of vandalism of street lights.”
