The 1st Vice-President of the Nigeria
Football Federation, Seyi Akinwumi, has assured fans that the Super
Eagles will defeat Zambia in the return leg of their 2018 World Cup
qualifier in Uyo in October...
Akinwumi said the NFF was impressed with
the performance of the Eagles in the World Cup qualifying games, which
earned the team 10 points from four matches.
The NFF chief spoke to reporters on the
sidelines of the final of the Ogunjobi Golden Cup to celebrate the 60th
birthday of a former Secretary-General of NFF, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, in
Osogbo on Saturday.
Olorunda FC defeated Yaa Jamiu Isibo from Ede 2-0 to emerge as the winners of the championship.
Akinwumi said the Eagles had assured the federation that they would play in the World Cup next year.
He said Nigeria would not underrate
Zambia despite defeating them (2-1) in the first leg in Ndola last
year but would work harder for a total victory in the reverse fixture in
Uyo.
Akinwumi said, “The NFF is impressed
with the performance of the Eagles. They defeated the Indomitable Lions
(4-0 in Uyo) and went to play a draw with them in Yaounde. They
deserved to win that match.
“The Zambians may camp anywhere in
Europe but the match will be played here and it is not going to be
played in Europe. The players have assured us of their determination to
pick the ticket and that is what that is important now.”
Ogunjobi, who is a Special Adviser
to the Osun State Governor on Sports, said he was happy with the
competition and he was impressed by the quality of the games.
