It was, nonetheless, what Paul Surridge did in his debut collection for the Seventies house on Friday afternoon, in a loudly pared-down collection that made his intentions perfectly clear: his direction for Cavalli couldn’t be further from the decadent la dolce vita lavishness of his short-lived predecessor Peter Dundas, and that must have been what the bosses asked for.
