A publication by the Independent
National Electoral Commission on Tuesday in Awka, Anambra State, showed
that the state Governor, Willie Obiano, had retained his deputy,Dr.
Nkem Okeke, as his running mate for the November 18 governorship poll...
Before the INEC’s publication,
speculations were rife that Obiano had replaced Okeke with Bianca
Ojukwu, the widow of the Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.
It was said that Obiano allegedly
decided to pick Mrs. Ojukwu following the choosing of the daughter of a
former Vice-President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Mrs. Chidi Onyemelukwe as the
Peoples Democratic Party.
Also, the governorship candidate of the
All Progressives Congress, Dr Tony Nwoye, picked Dozie Ikedife, Jnr, the
son of a former National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Dozie
Ikedife, who hails from Nnewi, as running mate.
The publication which showed the names
of the contestants and their deputies indicated that 37 registered
political parties would contest the November 18 election in the state.
