The Nigerian Police Force said it would honor a Police
Officer, Mr Cyril Nwosu, who lost his life following an attack on Ariaria
Police station in Aba by suspected hoodlums...
The Inspector-General of Police,Mr
Ibrahim Idris, disclosed this when he paid a one-day working visit to Abia on
Thursday in Umuahia. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the hoodlums had
on Sept. 14 attacked police officers in Ariaria police station, razed the
station and carted away communication gadgets and pump action rifle. Idris said
that the decision to give a posthumous promotion to the officer was informed by
the resolve of the Force to show the value it attached to the life and service
of police officers. He said that the deceased who had yet to be confirmed as an
Assistant Superintendent of Police before his death, would be duly confirmed
and commended his gallantry and zeal. He urged police officers to “stand by the
truth and do what is glamorous for the country”, as Nigeria required police
officers that were committed to service. The inspector-general commended the
State Government for the measures it had taken to restore law and order during
the recent crisis that erupted in the state. “It is our duty to ensure that the
country remains united and stronger. I believe that by the grace of God we will
continue to remain united,” Idris said. Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu emphasised the
important role of security and stability in the development of Abia and the
nation. Ikpeazu called on the people of the state to remain law abiding and
reaffirmed his readiness to work with the Police to ensure that Abia remained a
safe haven for investors. Alhaji Yaro Danladi, the leader of the Hausa community
in Abia, thanked the state government for its efforts at ensuring the safety of
Hausa people in the state. Mr Abiola Taye, the President-General of Yoruba
community in the state, called on the state government to provide assistance to
rebuild the community’s mosque in Abia which was burnt during the crisis. (NAN)
