STRONG indications emerged yesterday that lack of funds for
senators and members of the House of Representatives to spend when they resume
next week may have forced the National Assembly to postpone the resumption date
from its annual recess by one week...
In a statement yesterday by Clerk of the
National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, the senators and members of the House
of Representatives who were scheduled to resume next Tuesday, September 19,
would now resume on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. The National Assembly had on
Thursday, July 27, adjourned for its annual recess to resume September 19. The
statement entitled, “Postponement of Resumption”, read: “This is to inform all
senators and members of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria, that the resumption date of both Houses in plenary has been
rescheduled from Tuesday, September 19, 2017, to Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
“All senators and members of the House of Representatives are by this notice,
requested to resume sitting in plenary on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.“ Though
no official reason was given for the postponement, Vanguard gathered that it
was in connection with lack of funds. as the lawmakers may not want to come
around without money to spend, having spent the last allocation. A source told
Vanguard that the next allocation would be for October, November and December,
just as the source said the last allocation was for July, August and September,
adding that the present month was paid during the holiday.Lack of Allocation Forces NASS To Postpone Resumption Date By One Week
