The American actor, 25, parted ways with his campmates following eight days of basic living on an otherwise uninhabited Pacific island.
Despite his criticism, many of the celebrity contestants were genuinely sorry to see RJ - who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three - depart so soon.
'I think he's the main man here,' said former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas. 'He's the ultimate survivor as far as I'm concerned.'
'Blaming the group dynamic is an interesting way to say I want to go home,' she said.
Elsewhere Ryan and fellow contestant Iwan Thomas came under fire from fans of the show after killing a baby Caiman while foraging for food. The pair, who had not eaten properly since entering the island camp, were filmed wrestling the reptile out of a small watering hole before killing it with a hunting knife.
Inevitably, the incident resulted in a backlash from viewers across social media.
Another added: 'No, I had to turn over from #CelebrityIsland, I know they need to eat but I just couldn't see them kill that crocodile.'
That poor poor crocodile! This is so awful!' added another, summing up the collective mood.
However others felt the killing was entirely justified, with one writing: 'all these moans about killing that caiman if u dont like it dont watch it Crocodile burger is really nice u shud all try it (sic).'
