“It’s all about a return to the forces of nature. I wanted to create strong Amazons. Women’s power today is extremely important, and I think I reflect that with this collection,” Olivier Rousteing said backstage.
The modern Amazons were embodied by the so-called Balmain Army: some A-list models headed by Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner who starred both in the opening of the show and in the finale. The designer addressed ethnic style with his usual tendency towards maximalism: fur, exotic leather, raw-edged animal skin, animalistic prints (T-shirts with wolves showed up), fringes and, of course, some chunky accessories that we just can’t imagine African style without.
Olivier Rousteing integrated the ethnic vibe into the Balmain DNA just perfectly: broad corsets and belts that accentuate the waistline, cutouts, asymmetry, transparent insets, jackboots and dramatic smoky eyes added a provocative and sexy vibe that we love the brand for. Thus, Balmain Amazons can boast not only of of moral power but of disarming beauty, too!
