The Army affirmed the capture in an announcement issued on Monday.
Six scoundrels were shot dead in Kirsa and Sunke towns in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State amid a weapon fight.
Two weeks back, Mansur Dan-Ali, the Minister of Defense, had said some conventional rulers in Zamfara and the North-West area were helping a few crooks to propagate crimes.
The Zamfara State Council of Chiefs denied the charges.
Moreso, the Nigerian Army said separated from the captures of the pioneers of Doka and Mutu towns, whose names were not revealed, the troops caught 16 other presumed witnesses and errand men to the brigands.
The Army stated: "Troops on Operation Harbin Kunama 3, in view of believable insight about desperados' developments in Kirsa and Sunke in the Anka LGA, proceeded with a leeway activity into the hinterland to clear the rascals.
"Therefore, the troops connected with the crooks in a shoot-out at the shrubberies of Kirsa and Sunke towns which brought about the killing of six hoodlums, the recuperation of two AK-47 rifles and two bikes.
"In Doka and Mutu towns in the Gusau LGA, troops likewise had a genuine experience on Saturday with a gathering of scoundrels which went on for around two hours.
"The scoundrels were equipped with advanced programmed weapons, however, they were overwhelmed by the troops, driving them to escape from their forts. Eighteen speculated witnesses to the scoundrels were captured, including the town heads of Doka and Mutu towns.
"The Force Commander, Major General Hakeem Otiki, said the troops would keep on following highwaymen in Zamfara and the coterminous conditions of Kebbi, Katsina, and Sokoto."
