The Longest Sniper Kills In History
A sniper with Canada's Joint Task Force 2 special forces killed an ISIS fighter at a distance of 3,540 m!
The records for the longest sniper kills among the armed forces began to be published in 1967 during the Vietnam War by the US Military. The current record holder for the longest kill range of any sniper in history is an anonymous sniper from the Joint Task Force 2, a unit of the Canadian Forces who managed a successful sniper kill at a range of 3,871 yards in May 2017 during the Iraq Civil War. However, there are other well-known snipers who held previous records for the longest sniper kills.

Carlos Harrison (2,707 yards)

Carlos Harrison was the previous record holder for the sniper with the longest confirmed kill in history. Carlos Harrison is a former Corporal of Horse in the cavalry regiment of the British Army known as the Blues and Royals. He served in the British Army and was deployed in the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War, and the Bosnia War. However, Harrison is best known for his service in the Afghanistan War when in November 2009 he successfully conducted the longest sniper kill in British Army history. During the war, Carlos Harrison who was deployed in the Helmand Province killed two Taliban gunmen at a range of 2,707 yards using his L115A3 Long Range Rifle. The kill range was later confirmed by an Apache helicopter using its laser range finder.

Rob Furlong (2,657 yards)

Rob Furlong is a retired Canadian sniper who holds the record for the longest sniper kill in Canadian military history with a kill range of 2,657 yards. The 40-year-old former sniper was enlisted into the Canadian Forces as a member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Furlong was deployed to Afghanistan under the Operation Anaconda where he and his team fought against Al-Qaeda. During one of their missions in the Shah-i-Kot Valley in Afghanistan, Rob Furlong successfully fatally struck an Al-Qaeda fighter using his 50-calibre Long Range McMillan Brothers Tac-50 rifle from a distance of 2,657 yards, the third longest distance in history. Rob Furlong was later decorated for his successful missions in Afghanistan by the US Military who gave the sniper the Bronze Star Medal while the Canadian Forces gave Furlong the General Campaign Star.

Arron Perry (2,526 yards)

Arron Perry is a former Canadian Master Corporal who served in the Canadian Forces. He achieved a successful kill shot at a distance of 2,526 yards and therefore broke a record that had stood for 39 years. Arron Perry was enlisted in the Canadian Forces under the Princess Louise Fusiliers, a unit of the Halifax Militia. Perry was later moved to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry as a sniper and was deployed to Afghanistan where he and his team were engaged in Operation Anaconda. In March 2002, while still in Afghanistan, Arron Perry and his team of snipers were fighting Al-Qaeda terrorist when he successfully killed one from a range of 2,526 yards using his C15 Long Range Sniper Weapon.

Carlos Hathcock (2,500 yards)

Carlos Hathcock was a former sniper who served in the United States Marine Corps. Carlos Hathcock is best known for his service during the Vietnam War where he is credited with 93 confirmed kills. In February 1967 Carlos Hathcock fatally struck an enemy combatant from a range of 2,500 yards using his M2 Browning machine gun and set a record for the longest sniper kills which stood for 39 years until it was broken by Arron Perry in 2002.

Sniper Technology

The technology incorporated into sniper guns has improved throughout the years with the development of laser rangefinders and ballistic prediction software making it possible for snipers to be even more precise.
