‘Nigerians Are Tired Of Parties With Same Ideology’

Job creation expert and board member of Scope America Outreach, Mr, James Omosule, believes that he can take Nigeria to next level if elected president in the 2019 general elections. He shares his vision of change and transformation in this interview with JOHNCHUKS ONUANYIM...

You are a new entrant in Nigeria’s political space. Exactly what are you expecting to do differently if elected president?
I want to and will create manufacturing jobs that will serve us well and at the same time create over 15 million jobs for the masses in the first few years. What we need today is jobs for our people and I know how to do just that.

Despite the fact that campaigns have started subtly for the next general elections, you are yet to declare for any political party. When will that declaration be made, and what party are you looking at?
I want an inclusive political party, where everyone is welcome. The people of Nigeria are tired of the same old political parties with the same ideology. We want something fresh, something that can bring everybody in and do what it promised to do. We are looking at several political parties right now. Many political parties are approaching us, but we are not yet committed to any political party yet. I will make such announcement sometime in the middle of next year. But what we are seriously focusing on right now is awareness.
We are covering ground little by little. We started sometime around January 2017 with just seven people and today we are over 11.9 million. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we should reach over 27 million in number. And that’s how we are going to win the next general election, slow and steady. Because with all the sufferings that are going on in Nigeria today, someone has to stand up for the masses and I am ready to serve the people.
You have a very rich pedigree particularly in the private sector. How do you intend to transfer those skills for the good of the country?
It is not about what you learned but about your skills and talents. I am fortunate to work for a company in the United States, who actually filed for bankruptcy, but during my time, we got out of it and became a profitable company. That same skill is what I will bring to Aso Rock Villa. My number one goal is to put people back to work and make sure that they have above average salary that can make people into the middle class and be able to have savings too. Poverty is a very bad thing, and to banish poverty, we are going to invest in our crumbling infrastructures around the country. We are actually going to invite our unemployed graduates to fill the first five million jobs within three months into our administration.

Critics say you have been away from the country for too long to make any serious impact in an election. How do you react to such comments?
I welcome such comments, I’m not new to such comments and I understand such comments, but it doesn’t affect my judgment when it comes to what our people want. I might have been away from the country for too long, but my heart and soul are always with the people of Nigeria. I keep in touch with the news and people are relating developments on in the country to me on daily basis. So, I am in tune with some of these challenges that is facing our people every day. Don’t forget that I do visit Nigeria frequently. So, I am not out of touch at all.
Opinion suggests Nigerians are actually ready for a person to lead the country. What are you doing to take advantage of this situation in your quest?
This question is a very sensitive one at this time and I won’t explore it to my advantage given our president’s age. I know, most Nigerians are complaining about his age and his health, but we ought to remember that President Muhammadu Buhari is a nice man and I will continue to pray for him. So, if you are thinking that I might have an advantage because his age if he chooses to contest for the second time, you must be underestimating President Buhari because he is a fighter and I have nothing but respect for him.
Yes, I am young and vibrant and God fearing, I’m packed with vision and mission about where I want to take this great country of ours to. I just can’t wait to start working and getting things done. So, I believe being new in politics and young will serve the people of Nigeria well. I am used to working more than 12 hours a day and as president, I know about the long hours and the tenacity that the job requires.
