Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, former military
President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), late Minister of
Special Duties, Alhaji Wada Nas, former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji
Sani Zangon Daura, and....
a former National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen.
Abdullahi Sarki Mukhtar, are among several other prominent persons
slated to receive awards, on Friday, as part of activities marking the
30th anniversary celebrations of the creation of the state.
The Federal Government, under Gen. Babandiga, created Katsina State on September 23, 1987, along with Akwa-Ibom State.
The Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Alhaji
Mustapha Mohammed Inuwa, who briefed the press, on Wednesday evening,
said that the Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, would also be in
Katsina, on Friday, for a polo tournament in his honour while a
delegation from Katsina will also visit Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State
capital.
Inuwa explained that apart from being governor between
1999 and 2007, Yar’Adua was being honoured along with Nas and 15 others
for their efforts which culminated in the creation of Katsina State
while Muktar was the pioneer military governor who served between 1987
and August 1988.
On the list of awardees are also all former military
governors of the state, the pioneer civilian governor, Alhaji Saidu
Barda, indigenes of Katsina who had served as governors of other
states, former Nigeria’s security chiefs of Katsina origin including the
late Inspector-General of Police, M.D. Yusuf, late Chief Justice of
Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Bello, as well as former President, Federal
Court of Appeal, Justice Mamman Nasir, among others.
Inuwa said that Prof. Ismailia Tsiga of the Bayero University, Kano would deliver the anniversary lecture on Saturday.
