Last weekend, a special exhibition dated to Dior’s seventieth anniversary was launched. The large-scale event called “Christian Dior and Granville: The Source of the Legend” focuses on Dior’s childhood.
As you know, Christian Dior spend his childhood in Granville, at “Les Rhumbs” villa. The villa was one the main sources of inspiration for the famous designer. “I have the dearest and most amazing memories of my childhood home. I would even say that my life and my style owe almost everything to its location and architecture”, Dior used to say.The interiors of the ancestral mansion surrounded by a wonderful garden with flowerbeds was reflected in various Dior’s creations. For example, the Asian vibe of the entrance hall was translated into some dresses with belts that remind of Japanese obis and Chinese cheongsam-inspired tunics. The designer’s refined taste, his love to sophistication and elegance are rooted in the rococo-style living room. Little Dior was fond of gardening, just like his mother, Madeleine. The love to flowers, roses in particular, and the image of a flower woman were the leitmotifs of his creativity reflected in incredible fabrics, prints and embroideries.
Until September, 28, 2017 you have a chance to walk in the wonderful garden, study every corner of the villa and appreciate Christian Dior’s family archives.
