It comes after a video showing unchanged bed linens and dirty bathtubs at the five-star hotels went....
viral on Chinese social media on Monday.
The 6-minute video shows the Intercontinental, the Hilton, the Shangri-La, the JW Marriott and the W Hotel, failed to change bed linens and clean the bathtubs or toilets after a recent guest stay.
The video was made and released by Lanmei Test, an independent testing organization.
It is not clear who prompted the testing or for what purpose.
Using a form of invisible stamps, which only show under UV lights and could be washed away with water, the group checked out and returned to the same hotel rooms the following day under new bookings, determining the linens had not been changed and the bathtubs were not cleaned.
In response, Intercontinental says the accuracy of the video remains unclear. That company says it has strict cleaning standards at all times at its hotels.
Beijing's Tourism Administration has launched a sanitary inspection of these five hotels.
Officials say all five-star hotels in Beijing will be checked this week for hygine standards.
