WHO GETS THE NOD TO OFFICIATE THE SUNDAY 2022 WORLD CUP FINAL BETWEEN ARGENTINA AND FRANCE?

The much awaited World Cup final between France and Argentina will be officiated by Polish official Szymon Marciniak, according to FIFA. He succeeds as the first native Pole to accomplish so, with the help of his countrymen Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz. Marciniak has distinguished himself in the Champions League and has already presided over matches involving France and Argentina in Qatar.

Szymon Marciniak will officiate the World Cup championship game between France and Argentina on Sunday.

The Polish referee has presided over two matches thus far in Qatar, both of which included both finals.

He presided over France's 2-1 group stage victory over Denmark and served as the referee for Argentina's 2-1 semifinal triumph over Australia.

Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, both officials from Poland, will work as Marciniak's assistance referees.

The 41-year-old is the first Pole to have the honor of officiating the World Cup final after being chosen by the late referee Pierluigi Collina.

He presided over Liverpool's Champions League victory against Villarreal in the last-four earlier this year, becoming him the first Polish official to oversee a major European semi-final.

Prior to overseeing Chelsea's 3-2 quarterfinal victory against Real Madrid in a hectic 2021/22 Champions League season, he had refereed four games during the group stage and two in the last 16.
