The Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has identified the absence of efficient electricity supply as the major constraint hindering the economic development of the country......
Governor Bello stated this during the commissioning of two new 60MVA 132/33kV Power Transformers at the Suleja Transmission substation.
The governor noted that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has given the power sector the necessary support which led to commissioning of the new transformers.
“Power shortage in Nigeria has been a major problem and it has stopped our development, there is no country that will progress without a steady support electricity. It affects all sizes of business, small, medium and big businesses.
“If there is no power, your cost of production becomes extremely high, hence it encourages our traders to import what we can ordinarily produce here in Nigeria. The only way to solve the problem of unemployment is to ensure that as many as possible, small and medium industries develop and this is not achieve able without power,” he said.
Earlier, the managing director of TCN, Mr. Usman Gur Mohammad, charged investors whose industries requires, consistent and dependable power supply to energize them to make Suleja their destination.
He stated that the expansion of the Suleja substation was due to rapid urbanisation of the town which has led to increasing electricity demand in the town and its environs, well beyond the capacity of the former substation.
According to the TCN boss, the purpose of increasing the substation’s capacity is to enable it boost economic development of the area.
Commending TCN for the initiative, Gov. Bello express appreciation for the move to supply power directly to companies stressing that some investors had approached him to solicit for support in that regard.
