Safari Tiger Attack Case To Be Heard In A Beijing Court

A court in Beijing has agreed to hear a lawsuit connected to a tiger attack at the Badaling Wildlife World which left the plaintiff mauled, and her mother dead....

The plaintiff, only identified as Ms. Zhao, is demanding a compensation of 1.56 million yuan (around $236,000 USD) after failing to reach an agreement with the wildlife part.

"There is basically no possibility of mediating with the park. Regardless of the compensation, I've already lost my mother. Despite what some in the media are suggesting, I'm not trying to extort money for my mother's death," said Zhao.

The report is quoting a staff member from Badaling Wildlife World, surnamed Cao, suggesting the mediation failed because Ms. Zhao is asking for too much. "We are of the opinion that the park is not responsible for the fatal incident. We're only willing to offer humanitarian compensation," said Cao.

On July 23, 2016, while touring Badaling Wildlife World with her parents, Ms. Zhao was attacked by a Siberian tiger after exiting her vehicle. Her mother was mauled to death while trying to help her.

A subsequent investigation by the local government in Beijing's Yanqing District determined Zhao and her mother ignored park warnings that visitors remain inside their vehicles, as well as warnings from park patrols.

Zhao contends the warnings were not explicit, noting that other people have also been killed at the park.

The case is scheduled to be heard in the People's Court of Yanqing District in Beijing on December 19.
