Marcia Patmos recently attended a destination wedding and had to pack enough outfits for the flight, the ceremony, and a host of other events, all in one suitcase. Those who are familiar with Patmos know she’s a knitwear lover, not exactly the cocktail dress type....
The challenge gave her the idea to design a Spring collection comprised of everything she could possibly need for her next wedding away—or any long weekend, really—from a comfy yet elegant “sweatsuit” to wear on the plane to the perfect light trench and a smocked tunic-and-trousers combo for semiformal parties. Brides-to-be might even consider her delicate crocheted ivory ensemble, which would make a sweet rehearsal dinner look.As for the actual ceremony, those looking for a true cocktail dress alternative might not find one here—the fanciest look was a ruched-sleeve, semi-sheer black dress with just the slightest hint of shimmer, which might feel too breezy at an upscale wedding. But for those far-flung beach getaways, backyard barbecues, and less-traditional city nuptials, the marigold Lurex-flecked cashmere two-piece set looked ideal.
