Delta Teenager Commits Suicide Over Low JAMB Score

A teenager in Ekiugbo community in Ughelli North of Delta State, has allegedly committed suicide after finding out she had low scores in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The teenager simply identified as Loveth became very depressed after she found out she scored 163 which is inadequate for her to study Medicine in the university.
She reportedly drank three bottles of a dangerous insecticide known as Sniper and was found dead yesterday morning at her home where she resides with her parents.
A relative of the deceased, who spoke under condition of anonymity to the Nation, said her parents, who believed their daughter could still be revived, made last minute efforts to save her life.
“She was said to have scored about 163 in the JAMB exam. When she got home from where she had gone to check her result, her father told her that the score was too low to study Medicine. The father even assured her that she could get admission with the result into a polytechnic. After the discussion with her father, she was said to have left for her mother’s shop, which is some few meters away and secretly collected the three bottles of Sniper to drink. She drank all three bottles found in her room. According to what her parents told us, she didn’t show any form of premonition that she was going to kill herself. When she was not seen in the sitting room, they went to check her in her room but she was dead. Nobody knows why she killed herself ,” the family source said
Her remains have been deposited at the state morgue.
